Fall Campout Info; Scouting for Food

On September 28, 2011, in Events, by admin

This is just a reminder that our Fall Campout is this Saturday, October 1st at the Youth Campground at Kent Park. Please let me know by the end of the day on Thursday if you plan to attend. We’ll have archery and other activities. The cost is $3 per person. The campout will start around 2:00 p.m., but feel to come whenever you can.

In addition, we finish up Scouting for Food on Saturday morning. We’ll meet at Coralville Central at 9:00 a.m. to pick up bags of food. We’ll then organize and box the food in the gym for delivery to local food pantries.

More Campout Info
The campout will be at the Youth Group Camp site at Kent Park. We’ve reserved site #2, with overflow on site #1 (which are on your right as you drive in to the camp site). We have the lodge reserved, so we have a place to go if there’s inclement weather. Here’s a map to get to the campsite and another map detailing the campsite itself.

We’ll have the opening flag ceremony around 2:00 p.m. Archery will be available around 3:00 p.m., and we’ll have some other activities in the afternoon. We’ll also have a campfire after dinner. The Pack will provide dinner, campfire snacks (s’mores), and breakfast. Parents just need to bring a tent, sleeping bags, and other camping supplies you’d like, such as a flashlight. See you on Saturday!

Camp Cardinal Trailhead – April 10

On Scouting’s “Keep America Beautiful Day,” bring your pack, troop,  or crew to be part of history. The Boy Scouts are partnering with the City of Coralville to help construct a trailhead at historic Camp Cardinal. Camp Cardinal served many youth organizations over the years, including Scouts of the Iowa City Area Council in the 1920s. Pre-registration strongly encouraged (no cost but an estimated number of attendees is needed for material and project planning).

Kinnick Stadium Event – May 1

Celebrate Scouting the first Saturday in May Hawkeye style! Packs, Troops, and Crews are invited to a great event. A massive group photo will be taken on the field of historic Kinnick stadium in celebration of Scouting’s 100th anniversary. Facility tours will also take place as well as the opportunity to see other UI athletic programs. Scouts are invited to participate in the opening ceremony of the baseball game on the filed during the national anthem. A limited number of commemorative event t-shirts will be given away. The committee chair leads our monthly committee meeting (the last Tuesday of each month at Community of Christ Church) while the Recruitment Coordinator assists with signing up new scouts. Interested adults should contact Dennis Mitchell or Nick Westergaard.
